MOBIUS BAND

2002 • Great Hall at the Puget Sound Environmental Learning Center on Bainbridge Island, WA
12-gauge steel saw blade, paint, charcoal. 6' x 4' x 14'.

"Tug on anything and you will find it connected to everything else."

The suspended sculpture, Mobius Band, hugs a section of an 85' long recycled beam located in the Great Hall at the Puget Sound Environmental Learning Center on Bainbridge Island, WA. A 12-gauge steel band measuring 12" wide by approximately 40' long which, when twisted into a mobius loop, creates a 14' diameter band. Mobius Band is made from the same type of saw which might have milled this historic beam at the nearby Blakeley Mill. With a continuous edge, this saw blade is transformed into a symbol of sustainability, as it makes its graceful encirclement of the beam.

"This mobius path brings us back where the beginning is never ending." - M. Brown.
